Meet Cannoli!

This is Cannoli, an 11 year old Italian Greyhound. My husband and I adopted her a little under 2 years ago from a rescue group in Virginia.

When we talked to the rescue, we found out that she was part of a large operation that rescued a lot of Iggies from a puppy mill in West Virginia. They told us that Cannoli was used for breeding her entire life and was responsible for pumping out as many puppies as possible, just like our previous adoptee from the same group of greyhounds. The only thing different with Cannoli, is that she only has 3 legs.  The puppy mill still used her as a puppy cash cow. The rescue group told us that the puppy mill even said that she was just “born without her leg”.

When you look at Cannoli, you can tell this is not true. She has a lump of scar tissue and incision/stitch lines where her left front leg should be. She also has a large scar under her left eye and although not afraid of adults, she is extremely afraid of children and other dogs. Despite all these things, she gets around just fine and is the sweetest girl I know.

Throughout her time with us, she has grown more brave and even has other pup friends! She gets a lot of attention wherever we go, especially with her signature ‘kangaroo’ hopping. I have gotten used to the looks and don’t mind people asking questions. I see it as a great opportunity to talk about rescuing and adopting senior dogs, as well as dogs that have a unique trait or special circumstance.

Our Cannoli is extremely cuddly and a very sweet girl. She enjoys sleeping in my lap, laying out in the sun, and her favorite time of the day: dinner time.
